Action Qatar Puts on the Ritz for Qatar Business Women Award Winners

Action Qatar threw a gala celebration to honor the winners of the 2008 Qatar Business Women Award at the Ritz Carlton Island in Doha on 25 February. The award, launched in 2007 under the auspices of Her Highness Sheikha Mozah Bint Nasser Al Misnad, honours women who have demonstrated outstanding leadership in their fields. The ceremony was the culmination of a year-long journey to recognize women who contribute to Qatar through their professional or entrepreneurial achievements.

Action Qatar organized the event on behalf of Qatar Shell, with the participation of the Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Qatari Business Women Forum. The award ceremony was hosted by Mrs. Laila Al Shaikhli, Al Jazeera anchorwoman and TV presenter; the ceremony featured a spectacular private performance by Cirque du Soleil.

“The QBWA was a completely novel idea when we launched it on behalf of Shell Qatar,” said Anna-Denise Ioannou, Country Manager for Action Qatar. “We are thrilled that so many Qatari women were part of the QBWA, and that we were able to meet with local professionals and entrepreneurs who want to support this project. Their exposure to the media, and the coverage we garnered for them and for the QBWA, contributed tremendously to the success of this unique event.”
