Schools.com  (2001-2005)

Action proposed that Coca-Cola participate in Jordan’s drive, spearheaded by their Majesties’ King Abdullah II and Queen Rania, to induce an IT revolution in Jordan by helping modernize the country’s educational system. Coca-Cola, together with others in the private sector, agreed to do so by donating modern computers to local schools. The aim was to create a “Computers for Schools” Network of corporate members that would coordinate its efforts with the Ministry of Education (MOE)

Objectives

• To position Coca Cola in Jordan as a socially responsible corporation through the donation of much-needed modern computers to local schools.

Challenges

• To initiate a long-term (3-5 years) programme of equipping schools with the computer labs needed to expand IT literacy and enhance computer instruction.
• Establish a “Computers for Schools” Network of corporate members interested in helping local schools.
• Create a long-term partnership between the private sector and the MOE in modernizing the school system.

Results

• The unprecedented scope of this public/private partnership has made a significant contribution to the teaching and learning needs of students and educators in Jordan.
• Coca Cola has more than exceeded its goal of becoming a socially responsible corporation in Jordan.
